11 Days “Merak and Sakteng Trek”
This tour is basically a trek trip. An exciting overland journey that allows you to immerse yourself in the local culture and tradition of Merak and Sakteng villages. The tour is for a duration of 11 days from which 3 days will be spent on the trek from Sheytimi in Merak to Sakteng.
Merak and Sakteng are the two fascinating villages in north eastern Bhutan, which were closed to tourists until now and opened in late 2010. It was closed for the tourists out of concern for their unique culture and traditions of the people living there. The culture and tradition of the people living there are different in many ways and respects from the rest of the Bhutanese people. They have a very rich cultural heritage. They live on animals like yaks, sheep, cows and horses. They move from place to place with animals with the change of seasons. They are known as ‘Brokpas’, which means ‘herdsmen’ or they are semi-nomadic tribesmen.
Season: The recommended season for this trek is from April-May (Rhododendron Flower Festival) and December-January (Trashigang Festival).

- Spend time marveling at the ancient wall paintings and witnessing festivals in Dzongs and temples.
- Discover some of the most sacred Buddhist monasteries and temples in the Himalaya.
- Visit many cultural attractions including medieval fortresses (Dzongs), weaving center, and monuments.

INTRODUCTION
This 3 day trek out of the 11 days journey is concentrated solely in north eastern Bhutan under Trashigang district and the other remaining days the tour would cover Samdrupjongkhar, Trashigang, and Trashiyangtse districts. In doing this trek, we will be able to explore ourselves their indigenous culture of this tribesmen, not only having seen them personally. Come and visit before it is too late to see their indigenous culture and traditions.

- Drive towards Samdrupjongkhar town, south Bhutan (3hrs.)

- After lunch, explore Manirong, Tengma and Pusa villages in Sakteng

- Retrace the drive back towards Trashigang town
